Peru Community Schools Technology

We already have Amazing Teachers, Students, and Staff ...

... Now What? ...

... Provide them with Amazing Technology!

  • Philosophy

  • At Peru Community Schools, we believe that Technology must be purposeful ... If it does not work FOR us, we do not need it. We will not purchase Technology just for the sake of having Technology. It must fit our need. Technology must be researched, focused, planned, and trained. And if it hinders learning in any way, it has failed its purpose and is void. Our Technological Mindset is, "If it makes sense...".

  • Vision

  • The Vision of Peru Community Schools Technology Department is to provide leading-edge tools for Students and Staff that accelerate learning, streamline efficiency, and fulfill our Data/Analytical needs.

  • Current Infrastructure and Technologies

  • Our Network: Our current Technological Infrastructure is comprised of a 10 Gig backbone network, with 10 Gig fiber-optics connections between every network switch, a 10 Gig fiber-optics connection between each building, and 1 Gig connection to every computing device. We have a Wireless-AC Mesh System throughout every building, covering the entire School District. We have Leading-Edge Dell EqualLogics Virtualized Redundant Servers running the network on Microsoft Windows Active Directory. PCS protects our Students and Staff with Redundant Dell SonicWall Internet Firewall and Content Filtering Systems. The SonicWall Systems also acts as a throttling mechanism to ensure the Students and Staff always have the bandwidth they need and nothing hogs too much bandwidth. Our internet line is fed with a 2000 Mbps (2 Gig) connection. Our data is backed up multiple times per day with a fail-safe Unitrends Backup System. PCS's E-Mail System is powered by Microsoft Exchange Enterprise and Outlook WebApp.

Our Security System: PCS implemented a full-scale video surveillance system throughout every building, and electronic door lock and controls. Our School Resource Officers have complete access to the security system and can see anyone accessing the building before they reach the front doors. Each building utilizes an electronic visitor vetting system that cross-checks every visitor with federal databases and we get alerted if a visitor may pose a danger BEFORE they are allowed into our buildings.

Our Devices: We have Dell 3190 Education Edition Hybrid Foldable Touchscreen Laptop Devices for every Student and Teacher.  They have the latest Windows 10 Professional Operating Systems. For Special Needs, we have a mix of Tablets and i-Pads, where they make the most sense.

Our Software: We are a Microsoft Campus across the board. Students have the latest version of Microsoft Office through our Portal and can download and install it on up to 5 devices for FREE! Parents no longer have to purchase any software for home. We utilize Microsoft Office 2019, and a full range of Microsoft Products, such as OneDrive for Cloud Storage, SharePoint for blogging or posting documents, Office 365 for online access, and Microsoft Teams for Video Conferencing.

Our Cloud: Using Microsoft One-Drive, SharePoint, and Office365, PCS has implemented a full-scale digital initiative to fully utilize the cloud (both extranet and intranet) for our Students and Staff. PCS Students and Staff now have access to their important documents, work, and homework from anywhere. Canvas, by Instructure, is our LMS.

  • New Projects and Upgrades

  • For the summer of 2021, we are analyzing our Wireless AC System for possible upgrades. And every summer, our Tech Teams re-images the Operating System on EVERY Student and Staff computer. This assures that we have the latest patches and capabilities.

    Thank You,
    Your PCS Tech Team
